SANPETE COUNTY-- Sixth grade students from Moroni and Fountain Green Elementary Schools recently graduated the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) program which was taught to them by Deputy Cole Young.

Manti and Ephraim students will graduate April 15 and 16, respectively, from the DARE program after being taught by Deputy Jeff McQuivey.

The DARE program was first brought to Sanpete County by Sheriff Kevin Holman in 1997 under the direction of Sheriff Stan Anderson. Sheriff Holman supports the DARE program and will continue to support the program in the future.

DARE educates children about the harmful effects that alcohol, tobacco, drugs and inhalants have on a body.

National surveys have shown that use of methamphetamine, marijuana, tobacco and alcohol among teenagers have all decreased over the past few years.

The sheriff's office expressed gratitude to the citizens of Sanpete County for supporting the sheriff's office and school districts in teaching children to stay away from drugs.
