AMERICAN FORK
Congressman Jim Matheson is sending his staff to American Fork to help residents with issues including veterans affairs, Medicare, Social Security, travel visas, RECA claims and immigration. His representatives, Michelle Posselli and Ashley Martin, will be at the American Fork Senior Citizen Center, 54 E. Main St., from noon to 1 p.m. on Aug. 4. No appointment is necessary.
CEDAR HILLS
The City Council has approved acceptance of the subdivision improvements for the Cedars Plat I. City staff previously conducted an inspection and gave developers a punch list of items to correct. Developers addressed the problems, and gained approval during the city's second inspection.
HIGHLAND
The City Council has granted final approval of the Day's Meadow subdivision. However, the placement of the trail which will be constructed over a buried irrigation ditch was left to discretion of developer Steve Hoyal. "It will depend on the elevation of the irrigation ditch," he said. The trail will either go west along 10680 North, which is Chapel Drive, then between lots 4 and 5 in the 13-lot subdivision or else north along the back of lots 1 through 4. The council later approved the piping of the ditch between Day's Meadow and Hyde Estates which will allow the trail to connect from 6000 to 6400 West. The city will front the cost estimated to be between $55,000 and $75,000 with the stipulation the money will be reimbursed when the land is developed. The engineering for the design of the project will now go out to bid.
LEHI
Jack Wadley may be able to do what other developers have not been able to do in the last 10 years -- build a bowling center in the southeast business district of Lehi. Wadley has been in the business for 49 years and owns Jack and Jill Bowling in American Fork. They are planning on building a Lehi Jack and Jill's on 111 S. 600 East with 24 bowling lanes. Less than a block from Lehi High School, the proposed center will carry over the same educational and competitive programs that are available at the American Fork bowling center. Wadley wants the center's exterior design similar to its neighbor Albertson's -- modeled after the Lehi Roller Mills building on Main Street and 800 East with its white walls and red metal roof.
MAPLETON
In its July 26 meeting, the City Council voted to purchase the property just south of the old library and police department building to use for the construction of a new fire station.
PLEASANT GROVE
Jerri Warnick will entertain this Sunday as she sings the delightful music of Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra and other greats. Enjoy an evening of up-tunes and romantic melodies in the outdoor setting of the Pleasant Grove Recreation Center's east lawn on 100 East and 200 South. The free concert begins at 7:30 p.m. It is sponsored by the Pleasant Grove Arts Commission.
SANTAQUIN
In conjunction with Santaquin Days, there will be a rodeo at the Santaquin Arena on Saturday. The event will begin at 8 p.m. The cost is $8 for adults and $6 for children ages 3 to 16. Those who pay in advance at the Santaquin City Center, 45 W. 100 South, will receive a dollar discount per ticket. All seating will be on the lawn. There will also be a fireworks show following the event.
SPANISH FORK
The Spanish Fork Regional Chorale has a new name and a new director. The group will be named the Nebo Chorale to better align the choir with the newly formed Nebo Philharmonic Orchestra, and hopes are that the name will attract singers from Springville to Santaquin. The new director will be Rick Lunt, current director of the choirs at Spanish Fork High School. Lunt will start as director on Sept. 6.
SPRINGVILLE
Quilter Marcia Harward will be featured at the monthly Community and Family Night Monday from 6-8 p.m. at the Springville Museum of Art, 126 E. 400 South. Following Harward, Fiddlin' Fun will provide the entertainment portion of the evening. Children will then have the opportunity to apply the artistic principles they have learned from the guest artist, as the Museum Art Education department presents a "design your own quilt" activity for the children. This is a free activity. For more information or questions call 489-2727 or visit the museum's Web site at www.sma.nebo.edu.
