Nebo School District Classified Employees Named

On Wednesday, Feb. 14 community members gathered to honor Nebo School District Classified Employees. They are as follows:

Terri Beckstrom

Terri Beckstrom is a resource technician at East Meadows Elementary School and has worked for the District for over 21 years. Alicia Rudd, last year's Nebo Teacher of the Year, said "Terri helped me start the transitional program that is being used in the District today. She is smart, insightful and more than willing to do anything that is asked of her. I always knew my students were in good hands when they were working with Terri." Terri has three children and ten grandchildren and lives in Spanish Fork with her husband, Gary.

Mary Lou Brandon

Mary Lou Brandon is a special needs bus driver in the Transportation Department and has worked for Nebo School District for over 28 years. Mary Lou says, "I love my job - I absolutely adore the kids and love the parents. They are like part of my family." Her supervisor, Lynn Patterson, said, "Mary Lou cares very much about each child who enters her bus each day. There is never a concern about the welfare of children when they are on her bus." Mary Lou is also very involved with service to her church and her family. Mary Lou has three daughters and 12 grandchildren and lives withher husband, Terry, in Spanish Fork.

Kim Broadhead

Kim Broadhead is the Lunch Manager at Orchard Hills Elementary and has worked for the District for over 23 years. Supervisor Bill Vest said, "Kim Broadhead is an excellent manager! She has opened two new schools back-to-back. This is an awesome responsibility requiring coordination with every aspect of operations. She is an expert in the field of Child Nutrition and is often called on to train other employees. Kim has helped each studentto truly appreciate good food with her commitment to excellence!" Kim has always given generously of her time and talents, and has been actively involved in many worthwhile community activities. Kim has three children andseven grandchildren and lives with her husband, Keith, in Santaquin.

Kathy Carling

Kathy Carling is the head secretary for the Operations Department at the District Office, working with Steve Maughan, and has worked for the District for almost 12 years. Steve Maughan, Director of Operations, said, "She keeps us marching! When she is gone, the District shuts down!" This is high praise, but well-deserved. She is the "go to" person for several people in the District Office because she knows how to get things done, where things belong and where to go to get the answer to almost anything. She is truly a star! Kathy has five children and three granddaughters and lives with her husband, Kim, in Salem.

Von Dansie

Von Dansie is the head custodian at Payson High School and has worked for the District for almost 16 years. A teacher at PHS said "Our head custodian, Von Dansie, is so thoughtful and considerate of us teachers; all we need to do is mention that we have a need and it is taken care of, many times leaving the job he is working on to do it for us. He always is ready with a cheerful greeting and a big smile to brighten our days as well." Von takes a lot of pride in what he does and wants it to be the best it can. He loves to go trail riding with his mules in Payson Canyon and camping out the "old-fashioned" way. Von has two children and five grandsons and lives with his wife, Carlene, in West Mountain.

Peggy Giles

Peggy Giles is the Food Service Manager at Hobble Creek Elementary in Mapleton and has been employed with the District for over 24 years. Supervisor Bill Vest said, "Peggy has assisted in training so many of our lunch workers. She loves her job and always meets her challenges head on! She is a true professional and maintains a positive attitude in any situation." Her involvement with the PTA helped the Child Nutrition program to increase the consumption of fruits and vegetables in the entire District." Peggy has three children and ten grandchildren and lives with her husband, David in Mapleton.

Andrew Goudy

Andrew Goudy is the head custodian at Santaquin Elementary and has worked for the District for over 23 years. Principal Rob Keddington can't say enough about Andrew's contribution to the school and the community. "Andrew is the heart of our school He has touched the lives of so many students and educators over the years. Andrew is a true friend to all who know him." A co-worker said. "Andrew is one of the best ambassadors for good the school has ever had. Our students love him and it is obvious that he loves them as well." Andrew has two children and lives in Santaquin with his wife, Keela, who is a teacher at Barnett Elementary.

Kim Hudson

Kim Hudson is a Computer Technician in Technical Services at the District Office and has worked for the District for just over seven years. Supervisor Dale Bills said, "Kim spends most of her time supporting school-level employees. She knows the software inside and out and is anxious and willing to share her knowledge. If she can't get her point across over the phone she will make a personal visit to the school to make sure the person understands. She worries about people's time and searches for ways to make their jobs as easy as possible. She is an asset to our District." Kim has two married children and two grandchildren. She lives with her husband, Bill, in Spanish Fork.

Joy Maughan

Joy Maughan is the counseling secretary at Springville Junior High School and has worked for the District for over 6 years Principal Everett Kelepolo says, "Joy Maughan is so kind and caring to everyone that walks into our school. This makes her extremely valuable as an employee and to us as a friend." Joy has dreams of becoming a school counselor herself someday. She is very involved in service to her church and is a loving, diligent and dedicated person. Joy has five children and lives in Salem with her husband, Sheldon.

Becky Ottesen

Becky Ottesen is the Assistant Campus Supervisor at Spanish Fork High School and has worked for the District for almost 10 years. Principal Dave McKee said, "Becky Ottesen is a "gem". She not only does a fantastic job as one of our campus supervisors, she does it with enthusiasm, confidence, and care. I've seldom seen people like Becky who can take on a challenging, highly stressful situation with parents and students, and diffuse the highemotion almost immediately." Becky has two daughters, five stepsons and nine grandchildren. She lives with her husband, Paul, in Spanish Fork.

Brent Shurtliff

Brent Shurtliff works in Carpeting for the Maintenance Department and has been with the District for almost 15 years. Supervisor Matt Gledhill said: "Everyone in the Maintenance shop enjoys working around Brent. He will accept any assignment that is handed to him, and what I appreciate most is his enthusiasm. Aside from his great personality, Brent is a self starter, is always motivated with his "can do" attitude, and is a good friend to all." Brent is an accomplished softball player and trapshooter. He is also a certified clinical hypnotist and hopes to use his training someday to assist athletes and others with self-confidence and self-image. Brent has four children and two grandchildren, with one more on the way. He lives with his wife, Susan, in Santaquin.

Ann Stallings

Ann Stallings is a special needs bus driver in the Transportation Department and has worked for Nebo School District for over 27 years Lynn Patterson, the Supervisor of Transportation, said, "I have found Ann to be very caring about the students she serves She is always looking out for their safety and well being. She works well with the technicians who ride on her bus and who care for the students." She greets her students each day with a good morning and a smile, "Have a Good Day!" "Enjoy School!," "I'll be here to pick you up!, "See you in a while!," just to name a few. Ann is the mother of three children and lives in Payson.
