Director of Public Works Howard Denney reported recently that concrete bins at the American Fork cemetery were approximately two weeks away from being demolished.
Denney said the bid had been awarded, but the contractor had about a four-week delay. He said he was two weeks into that process.
ELK RIDGE
Elk Ridge will kick off its annual celebration with a parade down Park Drive on June 29 at 6:30 p.m. The parade will be followed the Mayor's Dinner at Shuler Park. The hot dog dinner costs $2. Saturday's festivities begin with the Fire Department's Pancake Breakfast from 7-11 a.m. and the Mountain Challenge 10K race at 7 a.m. and the Main Street Mile Run at 8:30 a.m. Registration is required for the runs. The breakfast costs $3 per person or $12 per family. The flag-raising ceremony is at 9 a.m. with the carnival following.
CEDAR FORT
Cedar Fort Fire Chief Don Miller announced at the Town Council meeting on June 12 that the Cedar Fort Fire Department has received an $8,000 grant from the U. S. Forest Service. The funds will be used to purchase and mount a 700-gallon water tank on the department's wildlands fire truck.
PROVO
Provo's Robert Bailey is being recognized at the Utah Arts Festival this weekend in Salt Lake City. The legendary jazz pianist is receiving the Jazz Master Award tonight.
Bailey, who has played with the likes of Dean Martin and Bing Crosby, is being honored for his work in creating, understanding and teaching jazz.
After receiving the award, he will participate in concert that includes a piece he wrote for the festival, said his wife, Margaret Bailey.
SPANISH FORK
The Spanish Fork-Springville Airport is holding an open house Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The open house is to show off new improvements and to let the community get acquainted with the airport. There will be free food and drinks to go along with free admission.
The airport will showcase a collection of airplanes from past and present and the local chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association will be on hand.
The airport is located at 250 N. 300 West, Spanish Fork.
