Cedar Hills man to run for Congress
Caleb Warnock
A Cedar Hills Republican is looking to challenge U.S. Rep. Chris Cannon, R-Utah, for a seat in Congress.
Joe H. Ferguson, who describes himself as a Republican who is opposed to President George Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney, and many Republican Party actions, announced his candidacy on Saturday at an event in Sandy.
If elected, Ferguson said he would work to secure America's borders because "99 out of 100 illegal aliens vote Democratic," and some commit crimes or are trained terrorists. America must deport more of them "or build a great big fence and put them in there" in addition to stopping free medical care for illegal immigrants and making sure their children cannot get automatic citizenship.
The present generation of politicians, "both Republicans and Democrats, are creating huge burdens for our young people," Ferguson said in a statement to media.
"I'm attacking some of them," Ferguson said when asked to clarify his party affiliation. "There are people with the Republican label on them who don't vote like Republicans, and Republicans who are pushing the North American Union, so I'm certainly opposed to some Republicans."
A 1953 Brigham Young University graduate, Air Force veteran and retired airline pilot, Ferguson defined his platform this way: "The Constitution and America: yes. The North American Union, and Council on Foreign Relations, no. That states my platform clearly."
Ferguson defined the union as "a merger of the United States, Mexico and Canada economically, culturally and politically. The NAU is being moved forward surreptitiously by President George W. Bush and the leaders of Mexico and Canada. The NAU is part of a long-range objective of some members of the Council on Foreign Relations to merge the United States into a world government under which the people would have very little or no control over the government."
In his statement, Ferguson said he is concerned because "the national debt will soon be ten trillion dollars, which is $33,000 for every man, woman and child in America."
"They are just ruining America for the young people," he said. "They are spending like drunken sailors."
