Trix is for kids, and shooting rabbits could be, too.

The House voted to eliminate the age requirement for hunting small game Monday. In a separate but similar bill, it voted to lower the minimum age for hunting big game from 14 to 12.

Rep. Curtis Oda, R-Clearfield, said he sponsored the two bills in part to catch up with what most Western states have already done.

"This is a national trend right now," said Oda, who added he began hunting with a BB gun when he was 5 years old.

Out of 11 Western states, only Idaho, Montana and Utah have age requirements for hunting small game. Utah's and Montana's age requirement is 12. Idaho's is 10.

All hunters, regardless of age, would still have to pass the same hunter safety classes and shooting exams.

Both bills now move onto the Senate.
