EPHRIAM- On Tuesday Feb. 3 Snow College President Scott Wyatt welcomed students, alumni, and officials to the groundbreaking for the Karen H. Huntsman Library and Heritage Plaza.

The library is to be located on the southwest corner of the Ephraim Campus close to the Noyes building. "Every building reflects and represents the values of its builders, owners, funders, designers, [and] constructors," according to Alan Roberts a representative from the architect/design team CRSA. He also commented on how great the Layton Construction Company is and looks forward to seeing the finished project.

The outside of the library will look at lot like the Noyes building with the same architecture only the interior will be modern. The library will be much larger than the existing Lucy A. Phillips Library with room to spare for future growth. It will have four levels including a café, 200-seat auditorium, and a spiral staircase.

The groundbreaking event was attended by many Snow college students who were all represented by Student Body President Dan Anderson. Dan expressed that a library is like a student's second home. He said, "The library we have now it's been wonderful, but on a busy day it's hard to find a study room that is open and a computer that's working and available to use. So we're really excited to have this new library I think it's going to be a huge asset to all of us."

Along with the library, the funding will build Heritage Plaza, a landscaped area that will be between the Noyes building and the new library. The plaza will be much like the Vietnam Memorial in Washington D.C. with a wall surrounding it. The granite wall will have the names of scholarship contributors, donors, funders, and others who have made sacrifices for education at Snow College. President Wyatt stated, "As the student or faculty or staff stand in the middle of this plaza, and look at the sea of names presented simply on this monument wall that wraps around the plaza we'll all be reminded that our good fortune comes as a result of someone else's sacrifice." In the center of the plaza will be a one and a quarter life size bronzed monument sculpture of Erastus and Lorenzo Snow, courtesy of Brad Taggart.

Construction is planned to be completed by August 2010.
