FARMINGTON -- A man who gave a fatal overdose of pills to a Bountiful girl in July as part a suicide pact was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Walter Andrew White, 39, had pleaded guilty earlier to giving an excessive amount of the antidepressant imipramine to Samantha Mikesell, 16, on July 5. The girl died, but White survived and tried to hide her body and pill bottles. White also said he had illegal sexual activity with the girl since she was 15.

Second District Judge Darwin Hansen sentenced White to up to 15 years in prison for second-degree felony child abuse homicide. Hansen also imposed sentences of zero-to-five years each for unlawful sexual conduct with a 16- or 17-year-old, dealing in materials harmful to a minor and obstruction of justice, all third-degree felonies.

The judge ordered that the terms for third-degree felonies run concurrently. In all, White faces up to 20 years in prison, although the state Board of Pardons makes the final decision on how long he remains in prison.
