Lindon, Orem to discuss district split

Daily Herald | Posted: Wednesday, August 16, 2006 11:00 pm

The Lindon and Orem city councils will meet tonight to talk about breaking out of the Alpine School District.

The city officials are set to receive a feasibility study about creating a new district. Orem gave the first approval for the study in May, and Lindon and Pleasant Grove joined the effort later.

Orem City Manager Jim Reams said city officials have been finishing up the study after consultant Mike Bennett took a full-time job as a school principal. After Bennett submitted a preliminary report in July, Reams and Orem Mayor Jerry Washburn asked for more information.

The Orem City Council is scheduled to vote on Aug. 22 on whether to take the issue to voters on Nov. 7. On the same day, the Alpine School District will ask voters for permission to sell $230 million in bonds and to levy a voted leeway to build, renovate and run schools.

If you go: meeting of the Orem and Lindon city councils, 7 tonight, Orem City Council chambers, 56 N. State St., Orem
