Michael Kemp of Springville and two of his brothers build custom log homes.¬ Late in the afternoon of March 5, 2008, Michael, age 26, was standing on scaffolding that collapsed. The result was a broken back and paralysis from the waist down.¬

After reconstructive back surgery, two weeks in the ICU and three weeks in inpatient rehab, Mike was released to heal at home.¬ He will clearly need to find different employment upon his recovery, as well as different housing for his wife, newborn daughter and two-year-old son.¬

He will begin outpatient rehab shortly, and his doctors indicate that his recovery will take at least a year.

In a continued effort to help Michael and his wife, Michelle, you are invited to attend a fun-filled auction on Friday, May 2, in Provo at the new Elks Lodge at 1000 S. University Avenue.

Peggy Shaw, Jennifer Huff and Kim Blackett, friends of Mike and Michelle, are hosting the auction.

Glen Bair, a professional auctioneer, has donated his services for this event.

The doors will open at 6 p.m. to mingle with Mike and Michelle, and preview auction items. The auction will begin at 7 p.m. You may pre-register for the auction by sending an email to:¬ mikekempauction@yahoo.com

Items for auction are varied and include such items as:¬ 5-day Guided Mule Deer Hunt, Game Hunts, Blue Ribbon Fly-Fishing Trips, Professional Artwork by Al Rounds and Simon Dewey, Fully Restored '72 Chev Short Bed Pickup, 4-Wheelers, Weekend Luxury Hotel Packages, Handcrafted Gift Baskets, Bake Goods, Log Bed, Sand Rail, Autographed Music CD's, Dental Services, Handmade Quilts, Crochet Items, Custom Pottery, Hair Salon Services, Illustrated Children's Books, Cards Autographed by Artist CB Decker, Collectors Barbie Dolls and So Much More!!!

There will also be a raffle for a 4-Wheeler!

An account has also been set up at Wells Fargo Bank for anyone desiring to donate outside of the auction.

The organizers thank all of those who have already done so much to help Michael and his family. Your kind generosity is greatly appreciated. Michael and Michelle thank you for your kindness.

Since Mike's accident his family can no longer live in their home because all the bedrooms are upstairs. The old car they have cannot fit their family and Mike's wheelchair, so this has been a terrible burden on them.

They did not have insurance or workman's comp because Mike had just started the new business of building log homes. He will now have to get¬ different training and a different job once he is able to get around.

If you go to their blogspot there is more information: www.mandmkemp.blogspot.com. If you go to the second page and watch the video at the bottom you will see what Mike has been through.¬
