The Utah County Attorney's Office has dropped its investigation into whether a mailer financed by Lehi Mayor Howard Johnson violates state laws intended to keep public entities from influencing elections.

The mayor sent a two-sided flier on Oct. 24 to Lehi residents with a letter expressing his support for the quarter-cent sales tax hike for transportation.

On the back of the letter was an ad for the Republican "Big Red Bus" tour to Lehi. Johnson used city staff and equipment to create the letter.

"We have concluded our investigation at this point," said Kay Bryson, county attorney. "We are not going to take any action at this point. The flier was ordered by Mayor Johnson, invoiced to him, paid by him and no city funds were used by him."
