UCAT announces local man is one of three finalists

A local college administrator is a finalist for the job of president of the Utah College of Applied Technology.

Robert O. Brems, campus president and chief executive officer of Mountainland Applied Technology College in Orem, is one of three finalists announced Monday, chosen from 33 candidates. He has been at the college since 2002.

From 1993-2002, he served as an associate superintendent at the Utah State Office of Education and was the state director of the agency's Applied Technology Education Services Division.

He was also the director of Applied Technology Education and a secondary curriculum specialist in the Box Elder County School District from 1987-1993.

He served as the assistant principal at Bear River High School from 1985-1987 and has six years of experience as an applied technology education instructor.

Brems earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees in industrial education from Utah State University, and has done doctoral work in educational leadership at the University of Utah.

The new president will replace Dr. Darrell White, who has served as the interim president since 2005.

The state Board of Regents will meet in an executive session at 8:30 a.m. Monday at the board's office at 60 S. 400 West in Salt Lake City to interview the candidates.
