A former UVSC board of trustees chairman has been nominated to the Utah Board of Regents.

Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. has chosen Jack Zenger to replace Michael Jensen, who is leaving to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Zenger still has to be approved by the Utah Senate, which meets on Wednesday.

The college is happy about the nomination, said Utah Valley State College spokeswoman Megan Laurie.

"We are very pleased that Jack has been appointed to the board. He's very qualified and will defiantly be a valuable addition to the board," Laurie said.

The college is also pleased for this nomination because Zenger understands the issues and perspectives of Utah County.

"It's very exciting because previously we only had one regent from Utah County," said Val Hale, vice president for institutional advancement and marketing at UVSC.

Zenger does not live in Utah County, but he served on the UVSC board of trustees from 1997 until 2005. He also served as chair of UVSC's Business School Advisory Council and co-chairman of the national presidential advisory board.

The board of regents is made up of educators, students and community members. It makes policy decisions for Utah's colleges and universities.
