Volunteers of the Krishna Culture Festival Tour will share their love for Indian dance, music, drama and food during a dance and drama presentation at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Krishna Temple, 8628 S. State Road. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated. The presentation will feature the Bharat Dance troupe headed by Annapayini, followed by the acclaimed musical drama, "Kunti and Karna" adapted from the Mahabharat, India's greatest epic. PROVO
There will be a breast cancer awareness charity event on Friday from 9 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. in the lot behind the house at 15 E. 800 North. Proceeds are going to Susan G. Komen for the cure. This event allows for college students throughout the state to come together for a wonderful cause -- the fight against breast cancer. Participants are encouraged to wear pink, and there will be food and prizes. There will also be a ring giveaway sponsored by Wilson Diamond, as well as fun activities including music, mechanical bull rides, punching bags and even a rock climbing wall. Admission is $5 and you must be 18 years of age to attend. No smoking or alcohol. For more information, call 380-3424.
• Provo Fire & Rescue this week announced the appointment of Battalion Chief Gary Jolley as deputy fire chief. Jolley brings nearly 30 years of fire experience to the position.
"Gary is experienced, capable, and talented," Fire Chief D. Blair Camp said in a press release. "I am confident he will do an outstanding job in this important administrative role."
Jolley, a Provo native, was hired by the city as a firefighter in 1979. He has served as a firefighter, EMT, paramedic, captain and battalion chief.
Jolley comes from a family of firefighters. His father-in-law was a battalion chief for Provo Fire & Rescue and his son Cody is a fire captain in Pleasant Grove.
Jolley has been the physical fitness coordinator for the department since 1990 and competed in the "Combat Challenge" at the national level. He also competes in triathlons and swimming competitions around the world. He serves as the mountain rescue coordinator for the department. He was honored as 2006 as Fire Officer of the Year.
Jolley lives in Provo with his wife Kathy and has four children and seven grandchildren.
