Parades,rodeos great fun for Fourth

SANPETE COUNTY-- No matter where people are this weekend, from one end of Sanpete County to the other, there is something fun scheduled in celebration of Independence Day, July 4.

Mt. Pleasant

Beginning in Mt. Pleasant, Thursday, July 2, the annual Hub City Days Mountain Man Rendezvous will take place all day at the Mt. Pleasant City Park and at 7 p.m., the Fun Night, with free admission, will happen at the Mt. Pleasant Rodeo Arena. Fun Night will include hide races, musical tires, barrel racing and trailer races.

July 3

Mutton Bustin' starts at 7 p.m. Entries limited to the first 25 applicants. A pig chase is open to kids ages 10 years and under. The Mt. Pleasant Rodeo begins at 8 p.m., with contractor Mascaro's Circle J Rodeo Company. Mountain Man Rendezvous continues all day with primitive demonstrations, muzzle loader shoots, games and a candy cannon for the kids. The carnival begins late afternoon in the city park.

July 4

A cannon shoot at 6 a.m., should wake up residents to begin the day, followed by a full-course breakfast served in the Mt. Pleasant City Park at 7 p.m., hosted by Sanpete Valley Hospital Foundation. Delay breakfast and participate in the 5K Fun Run, beginning in Terrel's Marketplace parking lot.

The youth parade on State Street will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by the adult parade will follow at 11 a.m. Entertainment begins at the cit park at 12 p.m., and the Mountain Man Rendezvous and the carnival continues. There will be a Dutch over cook-off at 7 p.m.

Pre-show entertainment and Mutton Bustin' at 7 p.m. and the rodeo at 8 p.m. Fireworks at 10 p.m., to finish the celebration.

Moroni

Moroni City will celebrate the Fourth of July beginning Friday, July 3, with the famous BBQ turkey dinner and a sesquicentennial celebration in the Moroni City Ball Park from 6 to 8 p.m., sponsored by Norbest and Moroni Feed Company.

July 4

A flag ceremony will be held at 7 a.m., followed by a Fun Run, beginning at 7:15 a.m. Breakfast will be available from 7 to 9 a.m., in the Moroni City Ball Park. Those attending are advised to bring dishes and utensils.

The annual airplane ping pong ball drop, with hundreds of prizes will happen along the parade route at 9:45 a.m., followed by the mammoth parade at 10 a.m. From 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 a.m., there will be a carnival in the ball park across from the activity center on Center Street.

Fun games and prizes, including a 25-foot waterslide and other activities and of course, the famous Norbest turkey sandwiches, sponsored by Norbest and Moroni Feed Company will be available.

At the activity center, there will be relay races, beginning at 11:30 a.m.; a baseball shootout at 12 p.m.; a greased pig contest at 12:30 p.m.; an ice-cold watermelon bust at 1 p.m., sponsored by Danny Dyches and Kris Thorpe. There will also be a family fun trap shoot in the city arena west of town.

A pre-fireworks variety show will be held at 7:30 p.m., featuring Junction 89. Everyone is encouraged to attend and enjoy great entertainment, hamburgers and hot dogs hot off the grill.

A spectacular fireworks show, presented by Fire Chief Paul Anderson and the Moroni City Fire Department will take place at 10 p.m. All proceeds from the events will be used to purchase new playground equipment for city parks.

Manti

The city of Manti will celebrate beginning July 3, with a volleyball tournament at the city park, an Independence Day parade at 7 p.m., and a free movie in the park at dusk. Bring chairs, blankets, family and friends. Refreshment will be available for purchase.

July 4

Saturday, July 4, begins with the "Ring Out for Freedom" from 6:30 to 8 a.m., at the American Legion Hall. Everyone is encouraged to participate in "ringing the bell."

There is a 5K run/walk at 7 a.m., and the American Legion Breakfast will be available from 7 to 10 a.m., in the east pavilion of the Manti City Park.

Events at the city park will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., including a flag raising, patriotic speakers, Miss 4th royalty, games, greased pole, tug-of-war, dunking booth, arm wrestling, Little Mr. and Miss fashion show, entertainment and a free watermelon bust.

A horseshoe tournament will be held at 1 p.m., a home-run derby at the Manti High School baseball field and a tennis tournament at the tennis court, both at 4 p.m. Festivities will end at dusk with fireworks.

Gunnison

Gunnison Patriot Days are scheduled to be held Friday and Saturday, July 3 and 4. There will be a roast beef dinner at the Gunnison Valley High School at 5: 30 p.m., at a suggested donation cost.

At 7 p.m., there will be an action of the donated and handmade items, with proceeds going to the Susquicentennial Celebration. Sean Nielson, with Dew Tour Motorcycle Tricks will perform at 8 p.m., and a Merrill Osmond Concert will take place at the football stadium at 9 p.m., followed by fireworks at the middle school at 10:30 p.m.

July 4th

Breakfast will be available by the American Legion at the city park from 6 to 9 a.m.

The flag raising ceremony will take place at 8 a.m., at the park and the parade on Main Street will begin at 9 a.m.

After the parade, there will be activities at the park including carnival games, concessions, a book sale, big slide, bounce house, euro bungee, races, a diaper derby and free swimming. A volleyball tournament will also be held at the city park.
