Old sheepherders party slated

Old Sheepherders Party slated for Jan. 16, 17 BAKER, NV-- The sixth annual Old Sheepherders Party is scheduled for Jan 16 and 17, in Baker NV, at the newly remodeled and expanded Border Inn. Planned events are as follows:

Jan. 16

After gathering in the afternoon, visiting and catching up on the latest news, Denys' Appreciation Dinner will be served at 5 p.m. PST. The traditional dinner is server at no charge to all sheepherders, owners, shearers and sheep truckers. The Border Inn and Lois Sheets are donating the lamb for the dinner. Following the dinner, guests will be entertained with the traditional open mike program. Those desiring to participate should contact Denys at 755-234-7300. Sam Jackson will lead off the program with poetry.

Jan. 17

The morning will start early as Dave Okelberry, who will bring his sourdough start, will begin flipping pancakes at 7 a.m. At 2 p.m., a program will begin with SourSlim from Paradise, CA; who will sing cowboy songs and play his accordion. There is no charge for the program. Get dressed up for a dinner featuring an authentic Basque dinner of leg of lamb to be served at 5 p.m., followed by music from the Silver Sage Family Band, Delta, who will entertain during the Sheepherders Ball. Dave Tilford and the Great Basin National Area representatives will be at the event to record stories and histories. Participants are encouraged to make reservations early as accomodations are limited. The RV park can handle trailers, motor homes and sheep camps with electric hookup.
