Two Utah County cities have received Utah State History grants to preserve and promote historical sites.
Springville received $6,600 to repair the Springville Carnegie Library, a Main Street building that was built in 1922 and added to the National Register of Historical Places in 1991. It now houses a museum for the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.
The money will also go to help hire a professional consultant to draw up survey documents for three other historic buildings.
Mapleton received $1,400 from the state to fund the publishing of a booklet about the city's historic buildings.
The grants consist of federal and state money and require a 100-percent match from local governments in the form of money or services. Altogether, the Utah Department of Community and Culture awarded more than $100,000 to 21 qualifying projects for the 2009-2010 grant year.
