• BEAR KILLED -- A black bear was killed in Hobble Creek Canyon on Friday after it got too close to campers. Wildlife officials say the 2-year-old bear entered the Balsam Campground Friday evening and was initially spotted by a 2-year-old girl who wanted to pet the animal. The girl's sister notified adults nearby, who called the camp's host. Officials say the group tried to scare it away with a warning shot from a shotgun, but the bear continued to advance and was shot to death by the host.
