• BRUSH FIRES -- Two brush fires were reported in Utah County on Saturday in Spanish Fork Canyon and in the foothills east of Payson but by Sunday evening were nearly completely contained.

The first fire that U.S. Forest Service officials are calling the Narrow Fire was reported about 3 p.m. Saturday near mile marker 190 in Spanish Fork Canyon, said Kathy Jo Pollock, a Forest Service fire information officer. The fire covered 7 acres and was expected to be fully contained by 6 p.m. Sunday, she said.

Fire investigators said the brush fire was caused by an unattended campfire in the area.

The second fire, dubbed the Molly Two Fire, is fairly high in the foothills above Payson and was reported at 11:40 p.m. Saturday, Pollock said. It had burned 10 acres and was also expected to be completely contained by 6 p.m. Sunday. Investigators are still looking into what caused the Molly Two Fire, she said.

Two 20-man Forest Service crews, Twin Peaks and Logan Hot Shots, responded to each fire, respectively, and each crew was equipped with a fire engine. The crews will continue to monitor the areas on Monday and extinguish any hot spots, she said.

Fire crews with Spanish Fork city and Utah County were first on the scene with the Narrow fire.

"We have resources to jump on these fires quickly and keep them to a small acreage," Pollock said.

With the summer camping season well at hand and the July holidays quickly approaching, Pollock reminded campers to make sure campfires are completely out and cold to the touch. She also recommended leaving fireworks at home.
