SLC man charged with shooting UVSC hockey coach Kenneth Dolezsar A judge on Thursday set a trial date for the man accused of killing UVSC hockey coach Kenneth Dolezsar.

Judge Royal Hansen scheduled Eugene Christopher Wright's trial for Oct. 6-10 on charges of murder and aggravated robbery.

Hansen also scheduled a motion hearing and a pretrial conference for September.

Wright pleaded not guilty last week to both charges.

Defense attorney Ed Brass said the motion hearing on Sept. 18 may take up an entire afternoon. He said he may file a motion challenging a witness's identification of Wright as Dolezsar's killer.

Wright, 33, of Salt Lake City is charged with gunning down Dolezsar in front of a Village Inn restaurant in Sandy in November.

Witness Lee Carlson testified at a preliminary hearing last week that he was sitting in his car at the restaurant when he saw Wright shoot the Springville resident.

Carlson said he only saw the side of the shooter's face and that the shooter was wearing a black wig. He said he later identified Wright as the shooter after Sandy police showed him photos. "I haven't seen all the photo arrays that were shown to the eyewitness beforehand. I don't know if they were in color or black and white.

"I don't know whose photos were included," Brass said. "I just want to get a look at those before I make a decision on that motion."

Wright will be back in court on May 14 for a bail hearing, where Brass plans to ask the judge to reduce his client's $2.5 million bail. Brass disputed the prosecution's claim that Wright is a flight risk.

"I think we can address that to the satisfaction of just about anybody," he said.

Wright was arrested in late February, about a month after police searched his home and business. Sandy police Detective Dean Carriger testified at Wright's preliminary hearing that investigators found a 9mm shell casing at Wright's condominium that was fired from the same gun as shell casings found at the scene of Dolezsar's killing. Prosecutors have not said what they believe the motive was for Dolezsar's shooting, but after his arrest police said he and Wright had some sort of business connections.

Some members of Dolezsar's family said they believe he was killed was over money.
