A Beach Boys tribute band, stars of the TV show "Survivor," car and motorcycle shows, a grand parade, a band concert and a children's art festival - residents can enjoy all this and more during the 2008 Art City Days celebration June 7-14.

A long list of activities, concerts and sporting events will keep residents busy all week long during this year's celebration. For detailed information about events and a complete list of events, look inside this paper for the 2008 Art City Days special section or visit www.springville.org.

Registration information and forms are available for many events at www.springville.org or at the city building (50 S. Main).

Despite the construction work that has just begun on the new Springville Civic Center, the Art City Days carnival will be set up in its traditional location in the Civic Center Park at 50 S. Main. The grassy area on the east side of the current city building will remain open to the public until after Art City Days so that the carnival and various concession booths may operate there.

Other booths, including the Little Bee Craft Boutique, will be set up in the street in front of the Senior Citizens Center, 65 E. 200 South.

Fans of the TV show "Survivor" will enjoy a new event this year: the Corporate Survivor Challenge. Todd Herzog, winner of "Survivor: China," and four of the other competitors featured on the show will be part of this event in which local groups from various businesses will compete at locations including the Springville Pool and Jolley's Ranch to determine who will be the "Ultimate Survivor." The public is invited to watch the competition.

On Friday, June 13, it will be Beach Boys night at the Spring Acres Arts Park, 620 S. 1350 East (just northeast of Springville High School) as the high-energy band Kahuna Beach Party performs musical favorites such as "California Girls" just how fans remember them. Admission is free.

Cars ranging from yesterday's classics to today's hot rods will be on display at the Car Show on June 14 at Art City Collision Repair, 587 S. Main, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Motorcycle fans can visit the Motorcycle Show at Legends Motorcycle, 96 N. Main, that same day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Eric Huffman, who appeared on "Survivor: China," will bring his band Florez to the Spring Acres Arts Park for a free concert on Saturday, June 14. Those attending the Florez concert will also be able to watch the final events of the Corporate Survivor Challenge as well as the crowning of the "Ultimate Survivor."

Following the Florez concert, audience members inside the arts park will have a perfect seat for the Art City Days fireworks show, which will be choreographed to music and launched that evening at 10 p.m.

The Springville High School football stadium will be open to the public during the fireworks as well, with a sound system set up at the stadium so people there can hear the music. Those who are within a mile of the arts park will be able to tune in to 99.9 FM to hear the music.

The Art City Days Hot-Air Balloon Festival will again take to the skies on June 12, 13 and 14. Those attending can enjoy watching the balloons' dramatic set-up and lift-off each morning beginning at approximately 6:30 a.m.

This year's Nestle Art City Days 5K Family Fun Run/Walk will again be held on the first Saturday of Art City Days (June 7). Same-day registration will begin at 6:30 that morning at Springville High School, with the race beginning at 7:30 a.m. Same-day registration is $15.

Children will find many exciting activities during the Fun-A-Rama on Thursday, June 12, at the Spring Acres Arts Park. The Fun-A-Rama, for children ages 3-12, will include inflatable rides such as the Giant Slide along with pony rides and magic shows. Admission to the Fun-A-Rama is $5; the price includes access to all rides and activities. It will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Springville Youth Council will sell concession items.

Art activities for children will be available at the Springville Museum of Art's annual Children's Art Festival, planned this year on Friday, June 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the grounds of the museum. Admission is free with many arts activities and entertainment.

The annual Children's Parade will begin at 10 a.m. at Grant Elementary School, 105 S. 400 East, also on Friday, June 13. Entry is free and children may decorate their bikes or dress up in costume if they desire.

Other events will include:

Grand Parade: Saturday, June 14, 10 a.m., 400 South and Main streets (to 200 North).

City Band Concert: Tuesday, June 10, 8 p.m., Springville Museum of Art parking lot, 126 E. 400 South. Bring lawn chairs and blankets and sit on the adjacent grassy area. Free admission.
