A 3-year-old Provo boy is in serious condition two days after being hit while trick or treating in Orem on Saturday night.
Sgt. Craig Martinez of the Orem Police Department said the boy's parents were driving to a family member's house at about 1340 N. 1200 West a little after 7 p.m.
The boy got out of one car parked on 1200 West and was going to the driver's side of the other vehicle and a dark truck or SUV hit him. The driver stopped about half a block down the street for a few seconds, then drove away.
The boy was taken to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center, then taken by medical helicopter to Primary Children's Medical Center. He had a broken leg and facial fractures. His injuries may require surgery, but Martinez said it appears he will recover.
Police still are looking for the driver of the vehicle. They are checking out video cameras from the area and asking people who were in the area that may have seen something to contact them. Also, he said, people who know drivers with a dark truck or SUV that has new right front bumper or right front fender damage should contact the police.
