Firefighter Jordan Fielding [left] helps a child out of the "learn not to burn" trailer at the annual Provo City Services Fair at Provo Towne Centre in Provo on Monday. The trailer simulates a real fire in a house with fake smoke and teaches children what they should do in the event of a real fire.
"We can reinforce what they've been taught, all in one place," said firefighter Kevin Peterson.
The Provo Fire Department brought the trailer to teach children about fire safety but the fair also featured events and activities from other government departments such as the police and rescue divisions. There were also free giveaways and demonstrations from all of the departments. It helps the public see where their money is going, too, Peterson said.
He added that the fair introduces children to more than just fire safety.
"It gets them excited about future job opportunities," Peterson said.
