PROVO -- With boxes of brightly colored chalk, artists took to transforming the blacktop parking lot at the Shops at the Riverwoods into a gallery of masterpieces during the first day of the Chalk the Block Art Festival on Friday.
"What's not to love?" artist Jane Hughes said, happy to be a part of the event that was in support of the Clear Horizons Academy.
More than 100 artists of differing skill levels are hosted at the event this year, either drawing or painting original pieces or recreating famous art.
"I win with the 4-year-old girl crowd," Hughes said with a smile while drawing cartoon princesses on the hot tarmac, much to the delight of passing children.
The day festival will continue on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
