American Leadership Academy has been evacuated after a suspicious package was found inside the junior high building.

According to Matt Johnson with the Spanish Fork Police Department, a faculty member observed a backpack wrapped in duct tape and took a picture of it with their cell phone. The picture was shown to the school's principal, who then evacuated the school and called the police.

The bomb squad with the Utah County Sheriff's office was able to obtain the bag with a robot and placed it in a "bomb bucket" and then removed it from the school grounds. The bag will be taken off campus and examined to determine if it is a bomb or not.

Johnson said the principal did not indicate that any bomb threats had been called into the school. The students of the K-12 school have been released for the day. Their parents have been contacted asking them to come pick up their children.
