BRIGHAM CITY — A demolition worker is dead after the roof of an old Brigham City Kmart building collapsed on him.

Brigham City Emergency Services Director Jim Buchanan says the man and three other workers were doing a planned tear-down of the building on Main Street when the roof fell in about 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Buchanan says it's possible the roof came down sooner than the man expected.

Officials say dozens of emergency workers dug through the rubble, and the worker was found dead about two hours later.

Jory Argyle of Reynolds Excavation, Demolition & Utilities tells ABC 4 the worker was a subcontractor with the company. His name has not yet been released.

Buchanan tells The Salt Lake Tribune the cave-in would be investigated by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
