Members of the Senate Business and Labor Committee approved a bill on Monday that would create a website on which lawmakers could post their emails.
The bill aims to open up the legislative process as lawmakers receive countless emails asking them to vote in favor or oppose many legislative issues throughout the session. If the bill is enacted lawmakers could choose to post their emails to the website, which anyone can access. Lawmakers also can opt to not post their emails to the site as the language of the bill clearly states participation in the website is voluntary.
The bill is sponsored by Sen. Curt Bramble, R-Provo. It passed out of committee unanimously and will be considered by the full body of the Senate later this week.
