Intermountain Healthcare and MountainStar Health announced changes to the local trauma system. American Fork Hospital, Mountain View Hospital and Timpanogos Regional have all received level IV trauma designations. The three hospitals were awarded the designation after visits from the American College of Surgeons to ensure they meet standards set by the Utah Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services. The designation means the hospitals are able to provide initial trauma care before transferring patients to a higher level care facility.

Four of the five Utah County Hospitals now have some sort of trauma designation. Utah Valley Regional Medical Center has been a level II trauma center for several years. Level I is the highest designation possible.
