HIGHLAND -- For nearly two decades, Kohler's grocery store has arguably been the heart of the Highland-Alpine area. Now, change has come.
The store has been sold, and on Dec. 31 will become Ridley's Family Markets, employees have been told.
Manager Kevin Johnson and Ridley's officials confirmed the news to the Daily Herald.
"We built this store in 1994," Johnson said. "Hopefully they will continue to serve the community in the way that we have."
Only the Highland store was purchased; the Lehi Kohler's is unaffected, he said. The name of the Highland store is expected to be changed, and most if not all employees will keep their jobs.
"I think they will do some upgrading," Johnson said. He acknowledged that customers are likely to mourn the changing of an era, but "change is always exciting," he said.
Ridley's Family Markets has stores in Idaho, Nevada, Utah and Wyoming. The other Ridley's stores in Utah are in Hyrum, Morgan, Orem and Tremonton.
