LEHI -- It's not often that water department employees get to be the hero.

But Lehi water department employee Weston Winters was for a woman whose young child flushed her wedding ring down the toilet.

According to a news release from the city, Winters and his crew ran a snake down two sections of the mainline of the sewer and located the ring near a manhole, then brought in a truck to wash the ring down to the manhole. Another employee got into the manhole and retrieved the ring.

“Over the years we’ve had the opportunity to retrieve personal articles for residents, and it’s always rewarding when we are able to successfully return valuable or sentimental items to someone who is afraid they’ve lost something forever," Winters said in the news release. "It’s a good feeling to know that we were able to utilize our training and experience and be of service."
