Santaquin is trying a fun new event this year during the Orchard Day's celebration. The first annual ATV Poker Run will be held on Saturday, July 31, with check-in at 8 a.m. and the run beginning at 9 a.m., leaving from Centennial Park.
If you have never heard of a poker run, it isn't a race; it is more like a rally. The run starts with a list of stops or destinations. During Orchard Days, the run will have five stops. For each stop the rider gets to draw a single playing card from a deck of 52 cards. An activity will also be held at each of the stops. At the final destination, winners will be announced and multiple prizes will be given out.
At each destination, the rider will be marked on a sheet so that riders cannot draw more than one card at each stop.
The run isn't timed so there isn't an advantage to riding the course quickly. There will be a start and end time to the run, but there is enough time between the times that each rider can easily get to each stop safely and participate in the activity there.
The cost for the poker run is $15 per rider with second hands being purchased for $5. A $5 discount off $15 will be offered for online registration until Thursday, July 29. All vehicles, operators and riders must be legal according to state regulations. For more information visit the Santaquin City Web site at www.santaquin.org.
