UVU Community Education in partnership with World Instructor Training Schools (WITS) will offer a personal trainer certification. Be a part of what ABCNEWS.com states as "the 4th hottest job in the U.S. at a national average of $25 an hour."

WITS is a national certifying organization that trains people to become personal fitness trainers. This certification allows new trainers to train healthy adults through a fitness program. The course builds students' knowledge from the ground up, as it is assumed that the students have no previous knowledge in health and fitness.

This course is taught over a 6-week period for better retention and skill competency with the National Board of Fitness Examiners test given on the 6th week. 15 hours of "hands on" practical training prepare students to work with clients one on one. Students learn how to assess an individual's level of fitness, design and customize exercise programs for individuals based on their current fitness level, demonstrate proper execution of weightlifting, stretching and isometric exercises and practice personal training professionally.

Fifteen hours of lectures include, but are not limited to, anatomy, exercise physiology, nutrition and health screening. Instructors demonstrate skills, equipment usage, assessment tests and how to develop programs for specific client needs.

The "hands-on" training is what makes WITS courses unique. Proof of CPR and AED certifications and a 20-hour internship will prepare students to work successfully in the fitness field and are required for personal trainer certification.

The course will be taught by World Instructor Training Schools certified instructors. Course will begin each Saturday beginning July 11, to August 22, (except Saturday, July 25, ) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in room LA 107 on the UVU Orem campus. Fee for the course is $499 (textbook required, not included in cost). Course size is limited to 20 and students are urged to register early.
