Buffalo Chip to state lawmakers for legislation that backfired. House Bill 165 was supposed to lure an airplane parts manufacturer to Utah by giving it a tax exemption. The firm went bankrupt, but HB 165's revision of the law erased a long-standing sales tax exemption for companies that are already here, such as Delta Airlines.
Beehive to all you Provoans who helped show the nation what serving others is all about. In the recent report of the Corporation for National and Community Service concerning volunteerism in 75 mid-sized cities, Provo led the U.S. with a whopping 63.8 percent volunteer rate, due largely to church service. This begs a joke about home teaching, but we refrain.
Buffalo Chip to former Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson for telling a Congressional committee there's a "compelling case" for the impeachment of President Bush. Anderson has long been full of sound and fury signifying nothing, but this elevates it to an art form.
Beehive to Brigham Young University students for once again gaining for BYU the designation as No. 1 on the Princeton Review's list of "Stone-Cold Sober Schools." That's a lot better than those schools that were "honored" for partying most and studying least. BYU won for the 11th year in a row, adding the virtue of consistency. We now think it's time to retire permanently from the competition and give somebody else a chance.
Do you agree?
