The Herald's editorial began, "Betty Perry, the 70-year-old woman from Orem who was roughed up by a city police officer for failing to water her lawn..."
Excuse me, but, putting together what I have read, the woman was only suffering the consequences of her refusal to comply with the city law and an officer of the law. One article indicated that she dropped her weight on purpose, sustaining some hurt by doing so, when the officer tried to cuff her. She refused to give an officer of the law her name. She tried to get away to get into her house.
Now really, if I were that officer, I would've cuffed someone who refused to reveal her identity and obey lawful instructions, tried to physically escape an officer and had already disobeyed the city law.
Not everyone over 70 is a sweet, innocent darling. The law had everything to do with the officer's actions. He did no wrong under the circumstances. How dare you print that she was "roughed up ... for failing to water her lawn..." That's pretty inaccurate and irresponsible reporting and foments sympathy for disobedience to the law.

Orem
