FAIRVIEW-- The following is some clarifications noted by Fairview City Council members in regards to the city council article that appeared in the June 25 issue of The Pyramid.

Water, sewer lines

The council approved an ordinance that specified all water line extensions will also be accompanied by the sewer. Prior discussions in previous council meetings stated the need of both utilities to accompany each other and are to be put in at the landowner's expense.

The council amended City Ordinance #2003-06 to state: "This amendment specifies that the owner or developer of property that is within 300 feet times the number of lots of any sewer lateral shall connect.

Sales tax

Council members did suggest that the city raise the sales tax rate by .30%, which is a highway tax. This will bring the rate to 6.25%, the same as other cities in Sanpete County. However, this will need to voted on by the citizens at a general election in November 2009. This money is to be used for highway projects only.

Dance hall

The Dance Hall Renovation project did receive a $500,000 grant from the George S. and Dolores Dore Eccles Foundation. Word was received from Orrin Hatch that they have received a $100,000 grant from the United States Department of Agriculture, Rural Development part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Fairview City has also received a $50,000.00 grant from the Miner Foundation to be used for general operating support of the Dance Hall Renovation project. The city will meet with the Community Impact Board (CIB) in the next coming weeks to complete the funding package.

The city is currently working with the architect and engineers on the design of the building. We are also working with our bonding attorneys getting everything ready for possibly a September start date on the project.
