Those responsible to teach respect are not showing it

The State School Board refused to show up at a Legislative meeting to which they were invited where the school voucher law was to be discussed. This was on the heels of an announcement from the Sate Supreme Court that the law would not be implemented until after a ballot referendum during the November election this year.

Those responsible to teach our youth civility and respect for law and authority refused to accept the law. Instead, they threw a fit of rebellion, seeking to get their way. There is a sunset clause built into this law, so if it is not successful or does not produce the desired effect, the law will die a natural death.

The fact that a petition has been circulated and signed by a sufficient number of eligible voters to put an issue on a ballot does not change that law and exempt compliance.

I call on all elected officials, including State School Board members, to uphold their sacred oath of office, act responsibly in their duties and honor and sustain the law of the land -- whether they agree with it or not.
