Editor's note: The Daily Herald recently asked its readers what they could do to reduce gas prices. Here are the comments we received:
Encourage alternatives to imported petroleum
While I applaud efforts to seek lower gas prices and keep the industry from price gouging, this is a short term focus. A longer term view requires that we look at renewable, non-polluting energy and fuel. Solutions must be vigorously pursued that offer relief from foreign oil, including countries supporting terrorism. While not forgetting to properly inflate our tires and use higher mpg vehicles, we can tell our legislators to redirect limited energy subsidies to areas that are environmentally sustainable. Our children will thank us for getting involved.

Ease up on the accelerator, save money, gasoline
Every time you get behind the wheel of your car you can affect the price of a gallon of gas. Your fuel efficiency decreases significantly for every mph you drive above 60 MPH. It stands to reason that if you drive the speed limit or less than the speed limit you will save substantially on your fuel cost. Its that simple.
