DRAPER -- An inmate was stabbed in the head during a brawl at the Utah State Prison.

Utah State Prison spokeswoman Angie Welling says the man sustained a puncture wound just behind the ear Saturday afternoon.

Welling says the fight happened in one of prison's nongang housing units but prison gangs may have played a role.

Guards didn't see the fight but have reviewed security tapes.

The stabbed inmate was taken to the emergency room.
