SALT LAKE CITY -- A report that will be presented to lawmakers shows that Utah continues have the lowest rate of fatalities related to driving under the influence in the United States.
The report says that 22 percent of all traffic fatalities in Utah were DUI-related in 2007, while the most recent national average for DUI-related fatalities in 2007 was 41 percent.
The sixth annual DUI report to the Legislature -- which will be presented Wednesday -- shows that DUI-related fatalities in Utah decreased from 68 in 2006 to 67 in 2007.
While the number of fatalities decreased, the number of DUI arrests increased in the fiscal year that ended June 30.
The report says there were nearly 15,300 arrests in the past fiscal year -- 639 more than in the previous year.
