In 1914, local physician Dr. A.L. Curtis recognized that the growing city of Payson needed a hospital. He and his wife, Annie, turned the upstairs of their home into a makeshift hospital. Soon, the number of beds increased to 15 and two physicians took care of patients. In 1922, a patient could get a tonsillectomy for $5 and the cost of delivering a child was $30.

Twenty two years later, Payson City built a new hospital, complete with 35 beds and a volunteer medical staff. Despite years of expansion, the needs of a rapidly expanding community eventually outpaced this small hospital.

In 1977, HCA, one of the country's leading providers of healthcare services, purchased the now 93-bed facility and donated the building back to the city. Soon, construction for a new hospital began east of town. Designed to provide a spectacular view of the surrounding mountains in many of the patient rooms, it soon became know as Mountain View Hospital.

Expanding to improve

patient services

This acute-care hospital officially opened its doors in 1979. Today, it serves the Payson community with 132 beds. Approximately 500 dedicated employees work closely with more than 150 highly skilled physicians to deliver exception care for around 550 patients every month. The hospital is further supported by 75 committed volunteers.

Earlier this year, Mountain View Hospital underwent a $14 million renovation and expansion that included a new, 51,000 square foot medical office building and a two-tiered parking structure. Both additions were specifically designed to increase patient convenience and comfort.

Premier services for people of all ages have also been expanded at Mountain View Hospital to better serve patients. Highlights include a new, dedicated orthopedic center and a comprehensive cardiac program. State-of-the-art technologies enable efficient diagnosis and treatment throughout the facility.

The completely remodeled Women's Center now features updated labor, delivery and childbirth recovery rooms and advanced imaging services such as digital mammography. The hospital's nursery has also been enlarged to further improve care for the newest residents of Payson and surrounding communities.

Celebrating 30 years

of serving Payson:

This summer, Mountain View Hospital is celebrating 30 years of serving the best community in Utah - Payson. Its team of administrators, medical staff, employees, and volunteers would be honored to mark its 30th birthday by honoring the individuals who have inspired them to be better every day!

The hospital is thrilled to invite patients, families and community members to a celebration that will include a free family concert featuring Nathan Osmond. He is coming home to Payson, his birthplace, to perform songs from his new album, "Feels Like Home."
