Last chance to beat the Zuke

This is it. It's fourth-and-goal at the one with the game on the line.

This is your last chance to beat the Zuke.

No more excuses. I don't want to hear, "I would have won, but I forgot to e-mail you my picks."

Blah, blah, blah.

Give me a break. Put up or shut up.

Some of you noticed that there was no pick the score game last week. I'm no dummy. I said beat the Zuke not tie the Zuke and try and beat me on the pick the score game.

But I did give you a chance to pick up some extra credit by picking which Pleasant Grove running back would rush for more than 100 yards against Lehi.

Of course, none of you dummies got the right answer which was none. I guess Lehi's defense didn't like the question.

I went 5-2 last week and only two contestants managed to post a better record. Gary Briggs, you da man.

Congrats. I will be sending you a prize and I can hang onto my paycheck. Kyle "I have no Plan-again," you not da man. You're ah, you're no good. Nice picks last week. You finished in a tie for last with about 20 other contestants and you gave the basketball wizard Kent Patridge bad advice.

Who was the other contestant that beat me?

The Great Drew Davis, formerly known as Drew "I have a Clue" Davis.

Curses. Even though I picked Spanish Fork to beat Lone Peak just to keep The Great Drew and the rest of the Dons gang (Cory Argyle, Reese Brunson, Everett Kelepolo, the Higginson brothers, Matt and Ben Marziale, Brittany and Brooke Jones, Casey Gardner, and on and on) from beating me.

But the crafty Davis out-foxed me. Don't say it. I know what you're thinking and it isn't something that you see everyday.

What do I give Drew as a prize? He has all my books. He got the Trafalga pass and Lagoon passes. What's left?

I'll come up with something. Maybe lunch at Cafe Rio.

Most of you weren't so lucky. Many of you stumbled on the Mountain View/Orem game, or you thought Timpanogos would beat American Fork.

Get in the game. It's the playoffs and this is it. This is your best chance of the year to beat me since I'm in the middle of starting the hire Kyle Bilbao for Timpanogos head football coach campaign.

He's hungry (despite my efforts to feed him), he's smart (despite he student teacher evaluation) and he's football savvy.

One coach, one team, one championship. Get on board!

Hey Murph and the selection committee, I vote for Bilbao for head coach and Frank Bramall for post-game pizza coordinator. Now that's a winning team.

Speaking of winning, if you would win the contest and be made fun of in the newspaper send me the winners of the following games to greatzuke@excite.com.

Now let's get to this week's winners.

Bonneville at Mountain View

I'm not worried about Mountain View bouncing back from last week's no-show at Orem. The Bruins will figure it out this week and once again be the surprise team of the playoffs.

Why? Who? How?

Nate Stroshine will rally the team. Anthony Heimuli will rack up 150 yards. Everyone will get into the act. I want to see Alec Carlson and Zack Oldham and then after the win they can carry assistant coach Drew Peterson off the field on their shoulder pads. No assistant coach cares more than Petey.

Petey for assistant coach of the year!

Mountain View 21, Bonneville 14

Provo at Pine View

Congratulations and I'm sorry. This is no way to welcome the Bulldogs to the playoffs. Of all the breaks. Pine View is good. Not even a pair of touchdown pass from Matt Griner to Anthony Miles can help the Bulldogs pull off this upset.

Pine View 35, Provo 14

Springville at Dixie

Great season. What a turnaround. May I suggest Rick Robins take Scott Mitchell (and me) out to La Casita, Mitchell''s favorite restaurant to celebrate a job well done. But I would do it before the Dixie game, just in case.

Dixie 38, Springville 20

Brighton at Pleasant Grove

The sequel is never as good as the first one, except in Pleasant Grove's case. The first time these two teams played, Pleasant Grove punished the Bengals 24-6, This game will be closer, but the Vikes won't get upset in the first round like last year when they were stunned by Davis.

B.J. Logan is going to make a big play and by the time the game is over Viking fans will demand a curtain call from Treavor Hawkins.

Pleasant Grove 28, Brighton 10

Skyline at Lone Peak

I can't help but remember (sorry Billy Burgess) the way the 2005 season ended. Lone Peak had a 9-1 record and hosted a fourth-place Skyline team. Skyline won 14-10 and went on to win the 5A title.

Skyline is never a good matchup in the first round, but it's not all gloom and doom for the Knights. Assistant coach Derek Farr is a certifiable high school football genius and Paul Walkenhorst has got a game plan for Skyline.

Now if Quincy Lewis can tell me Walkenhorst's high school uniform number, I'll provide the pregame meal for the entire basketball team.

Lone Peak 20, Skyline 17 (Pick the Score)

Jordan at Spanish Fork

On paper this appears to be a good matchup for the Dons. Jordan is 6-4 on the year. I can already see Mike Norris and the city of Spanish Fork e-mailing their upset Special of Spanish Fork over Jordan.

Don't do it.

Jordan is better than its record and remember and I hate to bring this up but the Dons have lost in the first round of the playoffs in three out of the last four years.

• Jordan 34, Spanish Fork 21

Orem at Cottonwood

Wow, all I can say is wow. What a win over Mountain View. Of course, outside of Orem's coaching staff and players, I was the only one who believed the Tigers would win, but don't worry about giving me the game ball.

Save it for this week after Orem shocks the world and upsets Cottonwood. Unbelievable! Call me crazy, but this is a new Orem team and it's all about when you peak.

Tyler Boulter and Jon Huntbach are running like LT and I hear they're now calling Bob Steele "The high school hoodie" because he's coaching like Bill Belichick.

This is the beginning of next year's state championship run under Brayden Hill.

Hey Ann Irvin what do you think about this pick?

• Orem 24, Cottonwood 21

Salem Hills at Morgan

May I be the first to congratulate the Skyhawks for making the playoffs in their first season. I'm calling this season a success. The game, well, not so much. There's not much to look forward to now until the baseball season.

Morgan 48, Salem Hills 13

West at Timpview

This is the free space on your bingo card. I know no one is going to take West, so why even include this game in the contest?

So I can talk about the underrated Chris Badger and Casey Rumsey.

Timpview 42, West 7
