An invitation to go fishing with me in 2008

I love New Year resolutions, especially when they involve fishing. From early on in my life, the lure of experiencing new and exciting fishing opportunities has attracted me like metal shavings to a magnet. For that reason, I've made it a point to fish in a wide variety of exotic and not-so-exotic places. Each year I make plans to discover something new about fishing. For years, my resolutions included discovering new fishing destinations, rivers, streams and lakes. But more recently I have set my sights on mastering fishing techniques, the results of which, I try to pass on to you, my loyal readers. But this year's two-part resolution involves you directly, so if you're game, read on.

In 2008, I want to introduce as many of you as possible to bass fishing, and then share some of those experiences in this column. I plan to do so by offering to take a few of you with me on my excursions to local waters, Deer Creek, Jordanelle, Lake Powell, Flaming Gorge and even Utah Lake. This will be done on a first-come, first-served basis, as it fits into our individual schedules. My e-mail address will be the initial contact point and we'll put plans together after that.

The second part of this resolution involves organizing and taking a group of anglers on a special bass fishing trip to Mexico. I can't tell you the number of times readers have asked me to organize such a trip, but for a lot of reasons I have chosen not to do so. I now believe the time is right. The dates will fall somewhere in the first week in December and could include up to 16 people. The logistics of this trip haven't been completely worked out yet, and at present, is not sponsored by nor backed by the Daily Herald. At this point, I would simply like to know if there is enough interest in such a trip to warrant more effort on my part to finalize the details. Mexico offers perhaps the best bass fishing in the world and young and old, experienced or even beginning anglers have the opportunity to catch a fish of a lifetime, while enjoying some wonderful food and accommodations.

My resolution is not meant to commercialize this column. The goal is to give as many of you as possible the opportunity to learn new fishing skills first-hand, from one who wants to pass on a little of that which has brought him so much joy over the course of his life. My e-mail address is: remaxdoa@gmail.com and I look forward to hearing from you.
