It is a fair statement to say that the Lone Peak girl's tennis team has been downright dominant in Region 4 in recent years.

At the Region 4 tournament on Thursday at Timpanogos, it was no different

The Knights were nearly perfect as they coasted to their fifth-straight region title.

Whitney White got things started off for the Knights by placing first in the No. 1 singles event when she defeated Rachel Clarke from Timpanogos in the finals 6-0, 6-1.

In the No. 2 singles event finals, Cameryn Call of Lone Peak beat Heather Jackman of Timpanogos 6-3, 6-1 to take the event.

The T'Wolves' Shayla Gibb played spoiler to the Knights' potential sweep by knocking off Jordan Ricks of Lone Peak 6-4, 6-2.

In the doubles events, it was all Lone Peak. In the No.1 doubles event, Mindy Wong and Bailee Henneman of Lone Peak upset Gentry Robinson and Arica Wilson of Pleasant Grove in a tightly contested match 7-6, 6-4.

The Knights' Kristi Elmer and Kristen Call defeated Torrey Best and Stephanie Hale of Pleasant Grove to take the No. 2 doubles event and round out an impressive day for Lone Peak.

Knights head coach John La Cognata said that he was proud of his team's effort in such a competitive region.

"There's a lot of really solid individual players in this region," he said. "I'm really happy with how the girls responded."

La Cognata also said that the region title was the result of focus and practice.

"We had probably the most solid practices of the entire season just this week," he continued. "The girls have been really focused and ready to go."

The Knights and other region qualifiers now shift their focus to the 5A state tournament next week.

La Cognata said he knows it is going to be a challenge, but he really wants his team to end their season on a high note.

"My whole focus all year has been to win region and get all the girls to state," he said. "There's a lot of good teams up there, and we just hope to go up there and represent the region and our school well."

The 5A state tournament begins on Thursday, Oct. 9 at Liberty Park in Salt Lake City.
