Daily Herald sports writers Jared Lloyd and Beky Beaton have been honored with a "Distinguished Media" service award by the Utah High School Activities Association. Each year the UHSAA honors outstanding educators, officials and contributors to Utah high school activities.

Lloyd has been with the Daily Herald since 2003 and has been a catalyst for the Daily Herald's enhanced high school sports coverage, which includes a new Web site (preprally.com) and video highlights. Beaton has been writing about sports in Utah County for 16 years and coordinates sports coverage for five of the Daily Herald's weekly papers -- the Lehi Free Press, the Saratoga Springs Pony Express, the Lone Peak Press, the Pleasant Grove Review and the American Fork Citizen.

Other locals honored include Kelly Critchfield as Male Official of the Year and Payson drill team advisor Molly Brenchley as 4A Coach of the Year.

Award recipients will be recognized at Willow Creek Country Club in Salt Lake City during a luncheon held in their honor on Nov. 5.
