At the half, it had become apparent that there was only one thing the could stop Timpview wide receiver Travis Van Leeuwen.

What could that one thing possibly be?

The score.

With a 50-12 lead there was no need to throw.

Bye-bye record book.

Van Leeuwen had six receptions for 200 yards in the first half and scored three touchdowns as Timpview pounded Spanish Fork 57-12 on Friday night, but with the game safely secured, Van Leeuwen wasn't thrown to in the second half much to the delight of to Spanish Fork fans and one other man--former BYU wide receiver Chris Hale from Orem. Hale holds the state record for most receiving yards in a game with 311 yards in 1998.

"If it would have been a close game, I'm sure I could have put up more numbers because we would have been throwing, but give credit to our defense for holding them," Van Leeuwen said. "Last week I didn't get in the end zone at all. We struggled offensively so we needed to get something going this week. We had a game plan for their secondary and it was us executing plays."

While Van Leeuwen was averaging more than three first downs per reception, Timpview had a few other players who weren't content to just sat back and watch. Running back Levi Teo had 89 yards rushing and scored four touchdowns in the first half and quarterback Casey Rumsey was 7-of-12 for 220 yards passing and three touchdowns.

"Coach V (Chad Van Orden) changed things up this week offensively compared to last week. He tracked himself and saw what he did and that he needed to do some things differently," said Timpview coach Louis Wong. "He did a good job and definitely Rumsey and Van Leeuwen have some chemistry together. Travis is getting better in reading the coverage and making adjustments. Both of them see the coverage and both of them are on the same page."

Timpview scored on its first two possessions of the game to set the tone for the night. Teo scored from 28 yards out to get the T'Birds going. Rumsey found Van Leeuwen for a 63-yard pass to the Spanish Fork four which set up Teo's second touchdown run with 4:38 left in the first quarter.

Spanish Fork tried to make a game of it. The Dons fired back with a touchdown pass from Breck Lewis to Richard Wilson down the middle of the field that covered 46 yards. Spanish Fork tried to run in the 2-point conversion, but was stopped.

A Timpview fumble set the Dons up for another quick score. Spanish Fork recovered on the Timpview 25. Lewis hooked up with Wilson for a 14-yard touchdown pass that cut the lead to 15-12 and fired up the Spanish Fork faithful with 11:18 left in the half.

But there's a reason why Timpview has now won 25 games in a row and has a personal 19-game winning streak over Spanish Fork.

The T'Birds dominated the Dons in every way imaginable (except penalty yards) over the next 11 minutes in what was a jaw-dropping display of offensive execution.

Rumsey found Van Leeuwen for touchdown passes of 69 and 32 yards. A Spanish Fork fumble on its own 22 set up another Teo touchdown run, this time from eight yards out.

An interception from Ofa Latu put Timpview in position to score again and you get two guesses who scored. Teo scampered around the corner from 10 yards out to give Timpview a 43-12 lead.

Spanish Fork fumbled the ensuing kickoff, allowing Rumsey time to find Van Leeuwen one more time. The final touchdown pass of the half went for 16 yards and gave the T'Birds a commanding 50-12 lead at the half.

"I don't know. Nothing went right. When Jordunn (Mattinson) went down that hurt we kind of lost some momentum. We had a little momentum, but that wasn't it, we just kind of ... I don't know, I'm going to go watch film and tell you later," said Spanish Fork coach Matt Christensen. "Timpview is good. You know their offense was going to break out. They didn't have a great game against P.G., but they're going to break out. They looked good."

The stats at intermission told just how dominating Timpview was. The T'Birds had 409 yards in offense, 189 rushing and 220 passing. Spanish Fork was held to just 108 yards in offense.

About the only thing Wong could be upset about was the penalties. Timpview racked up 11 penalties for 92 yards in the first half.

"I really liked how we played in the second half even though we didn't score a lot, I think we played more mistake free football as far as penalties, playing within ourselves and not overreacting," Wong said. "I do like our physicalness, but we're so far from where we need to be. I'm a perfectionist, I want to get better every game."

With the air taken out of the ball in the second half, Van Leeuwen didn't have a chance to add to his incredible night but he just found other ways to make an impact. He returned a punt 60 yards for a touchdown, but that was called back due to a penalty.

No worries, the damage was already done.
