Sean Halton tried his best to put the Orem Owlz' 14-game winning streak to bed when he hit a grand slam in the first inning of Game 1 of a doubleheader for the Helena Brewers. Halton's big fly helped the Brewers to a 7-1 lead, but when you're on a roll like the Owlz are on, no lead is safe.

Imagine playing every day for two weeks and not losing a game. Or think of it this way -- sweeping a three-game series five times.

Orem stormed back to set a franchise record by winning its 15th straight game with a 9-8 win in eight innings on Friday night in Orem, but lost the nightcap 4-3 on a two-out solo home run in the last inning.

"We're down 7-0 and that's a seven-inning game not a nine-inning game," said Orem manager Tom Kotchman said of the comeback in the first game. "But at some point, it's got to end. You ride that wave as long as you can. We rode it. It hit the seashore and its over with. The hard part, sometimes it's hard, now we've got back to business, get back to baseball."

In Game 1, Kevin Ramos went 4-for-5 with a franchise record four doubles and drove in three runs, including the game-winner for the Owlz. Dillon Baird went 2-for-4 with a home run and both Richard Cates and Carlos Ramirez homered to help the Owlz stun the Brewers.

Since it was a doubleheader, both games were scheduled to be seven-inning games, but it took the Owlz eight innings to complete the comeback.

Orem scored three runs in the third and three more in the fifth to make a game of it. The Owlz tied it up with a run in the sixth.

In the eighth inning, Terrell Alliman singled and moved to second on a Travis Witherspoon bunt. Ramos hit another double to drive in what proved to be the winning run. Since this game was rained out in Helena, the Brewers were the home team.

The Owlz still had to hold the Brewers and that job went to David Carpenter, who pitched a perfect inning to pick up his fourth save of the year. Speaking of saves, Jonathan Garrett came in the game in the fifth and cooled off Helena. He pitched three innings and gave up just one run to pick up the win.

In Game 2, Orem trailed 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth, but Michael Wing hit a solo home run with two outs to tie the game at three.

The magic then ran out for Orem when Helena's Mike Roberts hit a two-out home run in the top of the seventh to put the Brewers back on top.

Helena's Rob Currie set the Owlz down in order in the seventh to officially snap the streak. If its any consolation to Orem, the Owlz now have a 15-2 record in the second half.

"In the last game, there were two outstanding plays by (Justin) Bass throwing out two runners at third base. Baird made the over the head catch down the right-field line. Witherspoon made the big catch in center field, (Casey) Haether made a backhand play where he tried to tag the runner at third and threw to first," Kotchman said. "There was a lot of positive things defensively. It was a really good ball game. We know we have our hands full every day. We're not the 1929 Yankees."

Orem will try to start a new streak tonight when the Owlz host the Brewers at 7:05 p.m.
