A strong offensive start put the Orem Owlz out to a lead they wouldn't relinquish in winning their 14th straight, a 11-5 victory over Helena on Thursday in Orem.

The Owlz stormed out to a commanding lead when they scored seven in the bottom of the second inning. Orem had nine hits in the inning, including six singles, five of which brought in runs.

The lead increased as the Owlz added two runs each in the fourth and fifth innings. Helena tried to make a game of it, cutting into the lead with a five-run seventh. But from there, Orem held the Brewers scoreless to maintain the six-run margin.

Orem finished the night with 18 hits, compared to just seven for Helena.

The Owlz were led on offense by Richard Cates, Justin Bass and Tyler Mann, who each had two RBI. Casey Hearther went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and a pair of doubles and Carlos Ramirez hit a home run.

Oreangel Arenas earned the win on the mound for Orem, pitching six innings of shutout ball while striking out five and giving up just two hits.

The Owlz and Brewers will play again tonight a 7:05 p.m. at Brent Brown Ballpark.
