ORLANDO -- Eric Maynor demonstrated Tuesday why the Jazz selected him with the 20th overall pick in June's NBA Draft, scoring 12 points, pulling down five rebounds and handing out four assists to lift the Jazz to an 83-68 win over the Nets/76ers in Orlando Summer League play.
The former VCU standout, who nailed a game-winning shot against Duke in the 2007 NCAA Tournament, played 26 minutes, tops for the Jazz. He hit only 2-of-9 from the floor, but was 7-of-7 from the free-throw line.
Another rookie point guard also had a good game -- Jrue Holiday, who had the opportunity to play Maynor when UCLA defeated VCU in the first round of the tournament in March, recorded seven points and four rebounds for NJ/Philadelphia.
"It's going to be dangerous," Maynor said about his high expectations for all the point guards drafted last month. "We're going to show it was no fluke (that so many point guards were selected in the first round)."
Josh Duncan helped the Jazz have a solid outing inside, as Utah outscored NJ/Philly 42-30 in the paint. Duncan finished with 12 points, hitting 5-of-6 field goals. Utah out-rebounded the Nets/Sixers 35-33. Goran Suton, Utah's second-round pick this year, had six points and five rebounds in 22 minutes of play.
Former Flash standout Kevin Kruger added 10 points for the Jazz, going 2-for-4 from the 3-point line. The Jazz were 6-for-20 from beyond the arc.
Chris Douglas-Roberts had 27 points on 8-of-14 shooting for the Netx/Sixers. Utah plays Indiana today at 1 p.m. MT.
In other games, Ryan Anderson had a double-double with 33 points and 14 rebounds as the Orlando Magic beat Boston 85-82; and Roy Hibbert and Tyler Hansbrough dominated in the paint with a combined 47 points and 12 rebounds as the Indiana Pacers won their second straight with a 91-88 win over Oklahoma City.
