Two BYU football players earned their first Independent Player of the Week honors with their performances in a 47-0 win over Hawaii on Sept. 28.
Cougar freshman quarterback Taysom Hill was recognized as the Offensive Player of the Week, while senior cornerback Preston Hadley earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Hill completed 12 of 21 passes for 112 yards and two touchdowns, and ran 15 times for 143 yards and a score in the victory over the Warriors. He became the first true freshman quarterback to win in his first BYU start and also the first quarterback since Brandon Doman to run for more than 100 yards in a game.
On the other side of the ball, Hadley notched six tackles, including a sack and a forced fumble that set up a BYU touchdown. He also had two pass break-ups as the Cougars got their first shutout since 2009.
The other award recipient this week was Navy punter Pablo Beltran, who earned Special Teams Player of the Week honors for his efforts in a 12-0 loss to San Jose State.
