OGDEN -- Despite a career high of 30 points from David Heck, the UVSC men's basketball team was not able to beat Weber State in Ogden. The Wolverines fell to the Wildcats 69-62 in front of 3,101 fans at the Dee Events Center on Wednesday.
"David Heck had a career game and it goes all for naught," UVSC coach Dick Hunsaker said. "He was fantastic and kept us competitive."
UVSC shot 47 percent from the field while Weber State finished the game shooting 52 percent. The Wildcats also out rebounded the Wolverines, 29-22.
Other than Heck's 30, Ben Devoe had 12 points to be the only other Wolverine in double figures. Coric Riggs led three Wildcat players in double figures with 18 points. Teammate David Patten had 14 and Nick Covington had 10.
"I thought the right team won tonight," Hunsaker said. "They outplayed us, out-hustled us and made the plays when needed. We didn't match their intensity."
UVSC led early in the game by as many as four points two different times.
With the Wolverines leading 10-6 with 15:48 left in the first half, Weber State went on a 13-2 run to take a 19-12 lead with 11:31 left until halftime.
UVSC came within five points two different times during the half. Weber State led 31-23 at halftime.
The Wildcats built 37-27 lead three minutes into the second half.
However, the Wolverines had one last run in them, cutting the Weber lead to 45-44 following a basket by Devoe with 10:33 left in the game.
Weber State responded with a 12-1 run to lead 57-45 with 7:57 left. The Wildcats biggest lead was 13 points.
The Wolverines return to action on Friday against High Point in the McKay Center at 7 p.m.
